MOULTRIE, Ga. — A 3-month-old child died Saturday after a fight between his mother and another woman the previous day caused him to fall from his mother’s arms to the pavement, Moultrie police said on Monday.
The child’s mother, Karen Lashun Harrison, 26, has been charged with felony murder, cruelty to children in the first degree, cruelty to children in the second degree, simple battery (family violence) and affray, according to a statement from Moultrie police.
The woman with whom she fought, Terra Brown, has not been charged as of Monday afternoon, Moultrie police said.
Harrison told police the child had fallen from the arms of a family friend, and the friend provided the same story, the MPD statement said. Further investigation revealed that Harrison and Brown were in a fight Friday at Thomas Beauty Supply, 614 First Ave. S.E.
“Video of the incident reveals that the two engaged in a physical altercation and the baby falls from Harrison’s arms to the pavement,” the police statement said.
Family friend Carneata Clark, 26, has been charged with false statements and writings and with obstruction of an officer for her involvement in the case.
This was the second incident on Friday that resulted in a serious injury to a child.
Around noon Friday, Moultrie police responded to 1711 Camilla Highway, where a child had been bitten by a dog.
The child, whose name and age were not released, is currently at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital recovering from his injuries, police said.
The dog has been turned over to the Department of Agriculture for testing, police said.
Based on evidence obtained during the investigation, no criminal charges are going to be brought by Moultrie police.
