LIVE OAK — The Friends of the Library will be hosting its annual book sale this month.

The book sale will open Oct. 10 at 8:30 a.m. at the Live Oak branch of the Suwannee River Regional Library System and will also be open Oct. 11-12 and Oct. 14-19 during library hours.

The public is invited to stop by the library and browse in an effort to find some treasures.

The library is still looking for volunteers to help with setup, sorting and staffing the sale. Call or stop by the library to sign up to volunteer.

Also in October, the seed library, which reopened last month with fall seeds, will be open every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. throughout the fall. In addition to checking out seeds, Master Gardeners will be available to answer gardening questions.

The Moms 2 Moms group, which is presented by the Florida Department of Health – Suwannee County, will meet Thursday and Oct. 17 from 10-10:30 a.m. Door prizes and goodies will be provided. For more information, call Healthy Start at 386-362-2708.

On Saturday, the library will be serving free coffee in the new book area as it does the first Saturday of every month from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Suwannee Fire Rescue will also be at the library Saturday, teaching CPR and first aid from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those completing the class will receive a certificate. Space is limited so pre-registration is encouraged. People may preregister by calling the library at 386-362-2317. This is the last class of 2019.

Staff member Debra Barney will teach a knitting class Oct. 9 and a crochet class Oct. 16 in the small conference room, both starting at 11:30 a.m. Those attending should bring needles and yarn.

The Master Gardeners will host a Project FeederWatch workshop Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. Project FeederWatch is a winter-long survey of birds that visit feeders in backyards, nature centers, community areas and other locations in North America.

The library’s Book Club meets Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. to discuss “The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes” by Leonard Goldberg.

On Oct. 24, local food blogger Linda Lamarre will be at the library at noon to present a food demonstration and tasting program with roselle, the Florida cranberry. Roselle is a relative of hibiscus and okra and was once a very popular edible.

The library is hosting its Game Day for Adults from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 25. Scrabble and dominoes will be available, but those interested in attending are encouraged to bring their own games as well.

General Magistrate Jennifer Kuyrkendall Griffin will present a new program series — SCALES (Suwannee County Access to Legal Education Series — on the fourth Monday of the month, starting at 6 p.m. The first class in the series, which will be Oct. 28, is on guardianship. Also scheduled are probate on Nov. 25 and divorce on Dec. 23.

The library will be closed Oct. 30 for staff development day.
