WHITE SPRINGS — Johnny Bullard’s fourth book, “Black Runs the River” is now available.

Small towns are oftentimes rich with long-hidden secrets and even unsolved crimes, some so dastardly and sinister they are hard for the faint of heart to fathom, let alone confront, especially when the evil-doers might already be dead.

After one such mystery is uncovered in Seraph Springs, certain folks will finally be forced to pay their just dues for past crimes that were committed in the name of greed and deep-seated prejudice.

Bullard was born into a family of prolific storytellers and he gladly continues the tradition in a place where two cities and counties interconnect on the banks of the historic Suwannee River. His family roots run seven generations deep into the sandy soil of north central Florida, a place he dearly loves and where his entire life has been spent as an educator, public servant, musical performer and writer.

Bullard’s grasp of the culture of the region is expressed by one who has not only lived it, but loves it and is a part of it. He is humorous, poignant and offers an honest voice of a South that is colorful, vibrant, rich and real. He is as much a part of the region as the Suwannee River, immortalized by Stephen C. Foster in “Old Folks at Home.”

An old turpentine distillery at the Eight Mile Still on the Woodpecker Route north of White Springs is where Bullard calls home. He holds four college degrees from Valdosta State University, did post graduate work at Florida State University, and attended Harvard Principal’s Center at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1993.

He writes a weekly column called “Around the Banks of the Suwannee,” which is published in the Jasper News and Suwannee Democrat. He has also written for well known publications including Forum, a quarterly publication of the Florida Humanities Council.
