During an interview with an LOPD investigator, the suspect confessed to being the driver during the accident.

According to an LOPD spokesman, the suspect said he didn’t see anything before his car collided with the victim on U.S. 90 west of Live Oak as he was headed to work.

The suspect told authorities he stopped and saw that it was a person and then “was in shock” before leaving the scene and returning to his house where he parked the 2005 Kia Sorento behind the house.

The LOPD spokesman said the vehicle parts recovered at the scene match the vehicle found at the suspect’s house.

The victim was found spotted lying along the shoulder near daylight Saturday with first responders arriving around 6:50 a.m. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred in the roadway on U.S. 90 in a poorly-lit area and the victim was wearing dark clothes. The investigation indicated that the vehicle was not speeding at the time of the crash.
