Man drowns at Little River Springs

O’BRIEN — A 28-year-old male drowned at Little River Springs on Sunday.

Sheriff Sam St. John said the Hispanic male was at the the springs with his family when he jumped into the water right where the Suwannee River connects with the spring late Sunday afternoon and did not come back to the surface.

Deputies from the Suwannee, Columbia and Lafayette County Sheriff’s Offices along with officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission searched the river late into Sunday night in an attempt to recover the victim.

The search resumed Monday morning where the victim was found in the river.

The man’s identity has not been released, pending next of kin notification.


O’BRIEN — Little River Springs and the Suwannee River are being searched after a drowning accident Sunday.

Sheriff Sam St. John said a 28-year-old male jumped into the water right where the river connects with the spring late Sunday afternoon and did not come back to the surface.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office dive team as well as the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission are searching the river with their boats in an effort to find the victim, St. John said.
