Cause of Gables apartment fire electrical

VALDOSTA – The cause of a multi-unit apartment fire at The Gables Saturday evening was electrical, according to city officials.

No injuries were reported in the fire, according to the Valdosta Fire Department.

Firefighters responded about 6:30 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the roof of one of the three-story structures at the 1400 block of North St. Augustine Road apartment complex, according to a city statement. 

A 12-unit building fire led to two alarms, causing seven fire apparatuses and 21 firefighters to respond and control the fire, according to the statement.

One apartment suffered mostly water damage due to the fire.

American Red Cross representatives helped 12 displaced families at the scene, according to the city statement.

The Valdosta Police Department and South Georgia Medical Center Emergency Medical Services assisted on-scene.

Firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the roof of one of the structures at the St. Augustine Road apartment complex, Valdosta Fire Chief Brian Boutwell said at the scene.

The fire was in one apartment that suffered mostly water damage. Several VFD trucks and vehicles responded to the scene.
