Lowndes softball team downs Colquitt, takes over first place in region

MOULTRIE — Leading by just a run after Colquitt County scored three times in the top of the fifth inning, Lowndes scored twice in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the sixth for a 10-5 Region 1-7A victory over the Lady Packers on Tuesday at Lowndes.

The victory raised the Vikettes record to 11-5 overall and and moved them into first place in the region standings with a 4-0 record.

Colquitt, now 12-8 overall and 4-1 in the region, will play host to Lowndes in a 5 p.m. Thursday doubleheader at Packer Park.

Lowndes starter Camden Anders allowed Colquitt two runs in the second inning and three in the fifth and then blanked the Lady Packers over the final two innings to get the win.

She allowed six hits and walked four while striking out eight.

Anders also had one of the Vikettes’ three home runs. Dallas Brooks and Taylor Smith had the others.

Colquitt got on the board first, taking the lead on a two-run Carli Pearson double in the top of the third.

But the Vikettes tied it in the bottom of the inning when, with two outs, Anders doubled and Brooks sent her home run over the center field fence.

Lowndes extended the lead to 6-2 with a four-run fourth.

One of the runs scored on a single by Smith and another on a sacrifice fly by Anders.

The Vikettes two runs in the bottom of the fifth came on the home run by Taylor Smith.

The final two runs came courtesy of the Anders homer in the sixth.

Anders and Channing Smith each had two of Vikings’ seven hits.

Brooks, Taylor Smith and Gracie Williamson had the others.

Pearson and RaJayla McBride each had two hits for the Lady Packers. Hopper and Rhylee Tillery had the others.

Sophomore Peyton Arrington went the distance in the circle for the Lady Packers, giving up six earned runs and three walks. She struck out three.
