Valiants earn another region volleyball title

HAHIRA — Valwood clinched its eighth region volleyball championship in 11 years Thursday, sweeping sets from Frederica Academy.

Valwood’s set scores were 25-15, 25-20 and 25-16. The Valiants are now 21-5 on the season and finished region play undefeated.

Caylee Collins demonstrated her all-around abilities with seven aces, seven digs, and eight kills; Kam Register earned eight kills; Abby O’Neal had 14 assists and contributed four digs. Morgan Hamm provided stellar support with 16 assists, six digs, and two kills. Adylin Smith and Emma Cope Both displayed their offensive talents with four kills each.

The Valiants now set their sights on the upcoming state competition, which kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Coach Val Gallahan expressed pride in her team’s accomplishments, saying, “We’ve come a long way since 2013, and our eighth region championship is a reflection of the culture that has been developed within our program. Our current team has the talent to be successful in postseason play.”

No opponent has yet been announced for the opening round of state.
