VALDOSTA – Valdosta police officers are investigating human remains that were discovered over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Officers responded to the 1400 block of Cypress Street on Saturday, Nov. 25, at about 5 p.m. after receiving a E911 report of human remains being found.

“When officers arrived on the scene, they confirmed that the skeleton remains were human,” the release shared Tuesday morning said.

Detectives and crime scene personnel later arrived to investigate the incident.

“At this time there were no immediate signs of foul play to the body, which has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy,” the statement said.

The release said VPD detectives have a preliminary identification but are waiting for confirmation from the medical examiner.

No further information is being released at this time.
