Two Valdosta juveniles charged with murder in Thomson shooting

VALDOSTA – Two Valdosta juveniles were transported to the Thomasville Youth Detention Center after receiving charges in connection with a recent homicide in Thomson.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations took two Valdosta males, a 14-year-old and 15-year-old, into custody on Friday, Nov. 24. The teens were charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and gang charges, according to a GBI press release.
The Valdosta juveniles are two out of five people suspected of being involved in the shooting of a 13-year-old boy. The GBI conducted the shooting investigation at the Thomson Police Department’s request.
“On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at around 6:30 p.m., the Thomson Police Department responded to a call of gunfire at the 500 block of Anderson Avenue, Thomson, Ga.,” the GBI’s initial release said. “When officers arrived, they found a 13-year-old boy from Thomson unresponsive with a gunshot wound. The preliminary information indicates that the victim and other minors were located in the 500 block of Anderson Avenue when several unidentified men approached and shot at the home multiple times, one of which hit the victim.”
The GBI stated in a recent update that the victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The 13-year-old died on Saturday, Nov. 18, and the case was then upgraded to a homicide investigation.
The remaining suspects were identified as two males, ages 18 and 15, and a 16-year-old female, all from Thomson.
The Thomson males were charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and gang charges on Friday, Nov. 17, the GBI release said. Additional warrants of murder were later obtained for them, the statement said. The 18-year old was taken to the McDuffie County Jail and the 15-year old was taken to the Augusta Youth Detention Center.
The female was also charged with felony murder for her involvement in the case and is being held in the Augusta Youth Detention Center.
