Valdosta State University’s Sigma Gamma Rho chapter to host eighth annual Project CRADLE Care

VALDOSTA — On Saturday, Jan. 20 Valdosta State University’s Sigma Gamma Rho chapter will host Project CRADLE Care, a health care program whose aim is to improve pregnancy outcomes in high-risk communities.
“Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority’s Project CRADLE Care is one of our essential programs designed to raise awareness of disparate and inequitable maternal and infant health outcomes Black women endure through community outreach, advocacy, education, and implicit bias training,” states the official Sigma Gamma Rho website.
The event will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Thomasville Community Resource Center located at located at 501 Varnedoe St, in Thomasville. Project CRADLE Care is annually on the third Saturday every January.
Their goal is not only to raise awareness, but to help more women of childbearing age receive adequate prenatal care and education, as well as educate them on infant care and child development.
“Project CRADLE Care is a project to raise awareness to mothers in need…it helps mothers and families of poverty,” said Soror Caryn Vandergriff.
Along with providing resources for expectant mothers, Project CRADLE Care will have food, entertainment, supplies and local resources from CareSource, and Southern Regional Technical College.
