Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta recognizes supporters at awards luncheon

VALDOSTA — The Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta hosted its annual awards luncheon on Feb. 27. Among the honorees were individuals and organizations whose unwavering support has reshaped the landscape of the club and the community it serves.

Pat Nichols, a stalwart figure in the local Boys & Girls Club for nearly a quarter of a century, was posthumously awarded the Man of the Year accolade. Recognized for his instrumental role as vice president of finance, Nichols laid the groundwork for financial stewardship and integrity, shaping the club into what it is today, the club said in a press release. His family accepted the award on his behalf.

Deanna Smith, recognized as Woman of the Year, was commended for her ongoing commitment to the club and investment in its young people. Leading the annual Academy for Success, a teen workforce program initiated by her Leadership Lowndes group five years ago, Smith exemplifies dedication, the club said. Her unwavering belief in the potential of every teen and her tireless efforts to provide them with resources inspire all.

O’Steen Subaru of Valdosta was honored with the Old Reliable award for their unwavering support spanning over a decade. Through financial contributions and volunteer efforts, they have consistently championed the club’s mission, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of its members.

The AshBritt Foundation received the Extra Mile Award in recognition of their exceptional generosity and swift response during times of crisis. Their timely assistance in providing new flooring for the club’s gym after Hurricane Idalia exemplifies their commitment to the well-being of the communities they serve, the club said.

In a poignant moment, the club introduced the inaugural Transformation Award, bestowed upon the late Willis “Wyn” Miller. Remembered for his passion for leveling the playing field for the less fortunate, Miller’s legacy lives on through a transformative investment in the Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta Foundation. The club was honored to have Wyn’s wife, Linda Miller, present to receive the award.

With over 2,500 youth served annually, the Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta remains a beacon of hope and opportunity. The profound impact of the honorees underscores the importance of community support in shaping the futures of the young individuals they serve, the club said.
