VALDOSTA — Rising ninth through 12th graders can apply now to participate in SGMC Health’s annual Volunteen Summer Program. This unique program offers participants an invaluable opportunity to dive into the inner workings of SGMC Health, fostering a passion for healthcare and community service, the medical group said.

“The SGMC Health Summer Volunteen Program provides an immersive experience, allowing students to observe and engage with healthcare professionals across various departments,” said a press release from SGMC Health. “From witnessing the daily prioritization of patient care to gaining insight into the administrative support that lays the foundation for customer service success, participants will embark on a journey toward understanding the ultimate goal of patient-centered care.”

Selected participants will commit to two shifts per week, totaling four hours per day, between June 10 and July 26. The program not only grants Volunteens exposure to medical and administrative environments but also allows them to earn valuable volunteer experience, enriching their future academic and professional pursuits.

“Our Volunteen experience showcases our commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare leaders,” shared Hilary Willis, director of development and volunteer engagement. “By empowering young minds to explore the vastness of the healthcare environment, we hope to inspire a legacy of compassionate service and innovation within our community.”

The Volunteen program is open to rising ninth through 12th graders with a B or higher grade point average. Applications must be completed by May 1, 2024.
