GARY WISENBAKER: Two ships, two disasters, and jumping ship

The media’s frequent broadcast of the loop showing the tragic crash of the container ship Dali into the Francis Scott Key Bridge over the Petapsco River in Baltimore is made more haunting by the ship’s power flashing on and off, silhouetting it against the background of the bridge.

The fact that many lost their lives in those chilly waters in the early morning hours adds to the tragedy. That many more would have perished had the incident occurred five or six hours later doesn’t distract from that loss.

Yet an even larger tragedy is playing out before the eyes of the American people every day in Washington and across the nation.

Captained by President Joe Biden, the ship of state, is running aimlessly under the guise of governance with only flickering power and has no regard for what it destroys in its wake.

Just as the Dali destroyed the Baltimore bridge, Mr. Biden and the cabal of socialist Democrats surrounding him, seek to dismantle the bridge that connects and unifies all Americans by destroying the underpinnings of that bridge by advancing the agenda of identity politics, best put on display by Mr. Biden’s angry, shameful SOTU tirade.

Mr. Biden seeks only to divide on immigration, crime, race, income, education, women’s heath, and a plethora of other issues. Mr. Biden’s foreign policy is as adrift as the Dali and his lack of coherent foreign policy will bring down far more than concrete, steel, and wires.

Many in Mr. Biden’s party understand this, but the media won’t discuss it.

As the primary season winds down, this is reflected as nearly 500,000 Democrats voted “uncommitted” or “none of the above.” And thus far, Mr. Biden has garnered around ten million primary votes although running unopposed. This is over nine million less than his 2020 total. That’s a big drop.

Former President Donald Trump weighs in at 13.4 million votes, or 75 percent of GOP primary voters, against former UN Ambassadors Nikki Haley’s 25 percent.

It’s interesting to note the braying in all the media about how Mr. Trump will have a difficult time uniting a Republican Party where he “only” gets 75 percent of the primary votes. Yet in 2016 he garnered just 45 percent of the GOP primary vote which, of course, he rode on to victory. In what universe do these people live?

Mr. Trump also bests Mr. Biden in recent general election polling.

Of the recent nine polls covering the battle grounds states of Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia, Mr. Trump takes six leaving Mr. Biden only three, and of those three states, Mr. Trump is only down by one point. And a recent FOX national poll had Mr. Trump at the magic 50 percent number.

And it’s no wonder that these numbers are where they are given the chaos not only on the Southern Border but in our major city streets as well. Mr. Biden refuses to take any steps to address these issues other than demagogue.

Mr. Biden’s more concerned about how full a bag of chips are than how many illegals are allowed into the country. He’s more concerned about forcing Americans to buy EVs that they don’t want than bringing down the cost of fuel so critical to maintaining the supply chain and taming inflation. The list goes on.

This administration is an abject disaster. There’s no need to watch it slowly continue to crash into and destroy the country’s bridge of hope, freedom, and prosperity for all, like the Dali did to the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Americans can jump this ship in November. And there’s hope that they will.
