VSU hosts solar eclipse viewing experience for Valdosta community

VALDOSTA—As the highly anticipated solar eclipse approached, Valdosta State University aimed to provide the community with an unforgettable viewing experience. While Valdosta wasn’t in the direct path of totality, VSU ensured that there was still plenty to see and experience during this rare celestial event.
On Monday, residents of Valdosta witnessed a partial eclipse, with the moon obscuring approximately 69.4% of the sun at its peak. Beginning at 1:44 p.m. and ending around 4:18 p.m., locals were encouraged to come to VSU to observe the phenomenon safely.

At Nevins Hall, VSU offered a prime viewing location on the fourth-floor observation deck, with several small telescopes featuring solar filters for public use. Additionally, eclipse glasses were provided to ensure safe viewing practices. Many spectators safely looked toward the eclipse, Whether on the lawn or the Nevins Hall roof. By projecting the image for communal observation, VSU made it easy for everyone to witness the eclipse safely.
With these preparations in place, the community joined VSU in this extraordinary celestial spectacle and celebrated the universe’s wonders together.
