Valdosta launches Hispanic radio station

VALDOSTA — Valdosta Alliance Inc., has launched SUPRA 103.7 (LPFM) in Valdosta. The first Hispanic Community Station here, SUPRA 103.7 will feature the latest news and information to keep the Hispanic community well updated, the alliance said in a press release.
The bilingual station can be heard on 103.7 FM in the Lowndes County area.
On Feb. 1, the Federal Communications Commission granted a construction permit to Valdosta Alliance and a month later issued a License to Cover to fully operate the new radio station.
“The Hispanic population is growing in Valdosta, and this launch represents a significant step in our commitment to serving our local listeners that want to be part of the community radio project,” said Paula Greer, manager of Valdosta Alliance Inc.
“I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and long hours it took to get this Community Radio Project up and running. We can’t wait to give the very best of this innovative community radio format to our city.”
The station launches with the following weekday lineup.
6 – 10 a.m.: “Good Morning Valdosta Show.”
10 a.m. – noon: DJ Francisco.
3 – 7 p.m.: La Dama de Hierro (the Iron Woman).
6 p.m. – midnight: DJ El Tigre (DJ Tiger).
Sundays 8 a.m. – noon: “Supra Romanticas” with Albert Gutierrez, which Valdosta Alliance called one of the best romantica music shows in the U.S.
The news anchor will be Juan de los Palotes with a news report every hour, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In addition the station will transform its programming from midnight to 6 a.m. to praise God with a unique Christian programming called “Temple of Valdosta” to serve the city with the word of God to heal and transform families.
The station will be led by DJ Francisco, a professional radio specialist who has a university degree in communication from Santo Domingo’s university and Northernessex college in Massachusetts.
DJ Francisco started his radio career in the Dominican Republic working on SUPRA 101.7, KQ 94, FM 93 and La Mega 1150 Boston and POWER 102.9 in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
