Bicyclist, SUV collide on Hill Ave.

VALDOSTA — A bicyclist was seriously hurt when he collided with an SUV Monday.

Valdosta police, fire fighters and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded about 4:25 p.m. Monday to the 1400 block of West Hill Avenue after E911 received several emergency calls about a bicyclist being struck by a vehicle. When they arrived, first responders found the bicyclist, a 58-year-old male, unresponsive, according to a statement by the Valdosta Police Department. He was transported by EMS to South Georgia Medical Center.

Through investigation, members of the Valdosta Police Department Traffic Unit determined that the bicyclist was traveling west in the 1400 block of West Hill Avenue, along with a Chevrolet Tahoe. The bicyclist abruptly turned in front of the Tahoe, ultimately striking the front of the vehicle, police said.

Officers found that the bicyclist appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, police said.

The bicyclist is in stable condition, the VPD said, and charges are pending against him.

There were no injuries reported in the Tahoe.

The case is still under investigation.
