VALDOSTA — A teenager is in critical condition following a dirt bike accident Monday in Valdosta.
Around 9:07 p.m., police, firefighters and EMTs were called out to the area of Pineview Drive and Deborah Drive when E911 callers reported a traffic accident with a dirt bike, a Valdosta Police Department statement said.
First responders found a 17-year-old boy, the dirt bike’s rider, unresponsive. First aid was given and he was taken to South Georgia Medical Center.
Investigation showed the teen was on Deborah Drive when a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man was traveling on Pineview Drive; the dirt bike entered the intersection, hitting the other vehicle, police said.
The 17-year-old was taken to a Florida hospital and was in critical condition as of noon Tuesday. A passenger in the other vehicle reported a minor injury, the police statement said.
“Our prayers go out to everyone involved in and affected by this tragic accident. As temperatures warm up, we do see an increase in dirt bikes and ATVs traveling on our roadways. Please ensure that if you are operating one of these vehicles, you ensure that they are street legal and that all passengers wear helmets,” said Police Chief Leslie Manahan.
