Terrell wins over Valwood in first game of finals

MACON — Valwood will need a third game if they are able to raise the GIAA Class 3A state baseball championship.

Game one on Thursday did not end in the Valiants’ favor, with Terrell Academy winning 15-4 in five innings.

Terrell scored eight runs in the first frame, tacking on six more in the third.

Valwood’s four runs came in the top of the third.

Official stats input on GameChanger show the team loading the bases with one out in the third. Conner Hutto earned a walk to score Triston White for the first run, then Dallas Hatfield drove in Dalton Smith.

Chase Helfer’s two-out single brought in Hutto and Hatfield.

Terrell tallied 14 hits, Valwood needing five pitchers over the five frames. Five hits were for extra bases.

Five Valiants had one hit each.

Game two is Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., also to be played at Mercer.
