ATLANTA – Two South Georgia lawmakers were recently named to a state House study committee.
Rep. Chas Cannon, R-Moultrie, and Rep. Joe Campbell, R-Camilla, were among seven state representatives recently selected by Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, to serve on the House Study Committee on the Exchange, Storage and Coverage of Agricultural Products, Grain and Livestock.
“I appreciate Speaker Burns appointing me to this study committee; it will play an important role in shaping future legislation for Georgia agriculture,” Cannon said. “Georgia’s farmers and producers face numerous economic pressures, including the threat of litigation, cost inflation with respect to supplies and equipment and volatile prices for their crops. I am hopeful that we will be able to address some of these issues over the interim and generate some solid solutions as we get closer to another legislative session in January.”
Created by House Resolution 1166, the House Study Committee on the Exchange, Storage and Bond Coverage of Agricultural Products, Grain and Livestock will examine warehouse and bonding policies associated with Georgia’s agriculture industry.
Cannon represents all or part of Colquitt, Cook and Thomas counties. Campbell represents all or part of Decatur, Mitchell and Grady counties.
In addition to Cannon and Campbell, Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Reps. Steven Meeks (R-Screven), Robert Dickey (R-Musella), Rob Leverett (R-Elberton), Patty Stinson (D-Butler) and Beth Camp (R-Concord).
