- The Blue Knights-Chapter XV law enforcment motorcycle club held its first run in honor of Valdosta Police Department officer Jimmy Deron Griffin.
VALDOSTA — On Saturday, May 4, The Blue Knights-Chapter XV, a law enforcement motorcycle club, held its first Jimmy Deron Griffin Memorial Dice Run.
The ride was in memory of Griffin, who was a Valdosta Police Department Officer for 14 years, the Blue Knights chapter said in a press release. He passed away in 2023 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS. He was a dedicated officer who served in the Patrol Division and as the SWAT team’s sniper.
The ride raised money for the Jimmy D. Griffin Memorial Scholarship, in addition to promoting ALS awareness. The club presented a $1,000 scholarship to Alivia Lynch, a student who was graduating from Community Christian Academy in Adel this year.
The Blue Knights plan to make this an annual event so that they can continue to award a scholarship and raise awareness about this neurological disease that affects about 20,000 Americans a year, the press release said.
Any law enforcement members, active or retired, who might be interested in joining The Blue Knights can call 229-300-2907.
