SGMC Health welcomes 3 new physicians

VALDOSTA — SGMC Health recently welcomed three new physicians to the health system.
Urologist Dr. John Losee
John Losee, MD, FACS, is the newest provider at SGMC Urology.
Dr. Losee is Board Certified in urology. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney stones, urinary incontinence, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and prostate enlargement. His extensive training and experience equip him to provide the highest level of care to patients in need of urological services, the health system said in a press release.
Dr. Losee graduated from Georgetown University Medical School, where he also completed his surgical and urology residencies and served as chief resident.
“Urology is a much-needed specialty in our community, and Dr. Losee’s expertise will greatly enhance the quality of care we provide,” shared Brenda Alexander, vice president of physician network. “We look forward to expanding access to urological services and ensuring our patients receive the comprehensive care they deserve.”
Dr. Losee joins Patrick Parker, DO, and a team of providers at SGMC Urology, located at 3294 N. Oak St. Ext. in Valdosta. They are accepting new patients and can be reached at 229-241-1188.
Neurohospitalist Dr. Alireza Showraki
Alireza Showraki, MD, a highly skilled neurologist, has joined SGMC Health. Neurologists are medical professionals who diagnose and treat diseases and conditions of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Dr. Showraki also specializes in movement disorders and Parkinson’s disease.
As a neurohospitalist, Dr. Showraki will see patients in the hospital at SGMC Health Main, the health system said in a press release. His comprehensive expertise encompasses a wide range of neurological conditions, including familial tremors, stroke, epilepsy, headache, dementia, and more. His proficiency extends to performing Botox injections for dystonia, migraine, spasticity, and drooling/sialorrhea, as well as specialized deep brain stimulation (DBS) programming. Additionally, he is adept in lumbar punctures, occipital nerve blocks, EEG interpretation, and EMG and nerve conduction studies.
He shared that his fascination with the complexity of the brain led him to pursue a career in neurology. His deep commitment to understanding and treating neurological disorders is matched by his genuine compassion for his patients, the health system said.
“I believe in connecting with my patients on a personal level and fostering a supportive and trusting environment,” Dr. Showraki said. “I want my patients to feel fully informed and comfortable with their treatment plan.”
Dr. Showraki received his medical degree from Shiraz University School of Medicine in Iran. He completed his residency in neurology at Southern Illinois University and his fellowship in movement disorders at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California.
According to Dr. Showraki, being able to see his patients regain significant independence through brain stimulation placement and programming fuels his dedication to the field of neurology.
Dr. Showraki said he chose to join SGMC Health because of its potential to become a major hub for medical science. “I see great opportunity for growth and am excited to contribute to the system’s development and success,” he said.
According to SGMC Health Chief Medical Officer Pankaj Agrawal, “Dr. Showraki’s academic achievements are impressive, scoring in the top 1 percent of all national Resident In Training Exams (RITE) and the top 5 percent in the American Academy of Neurology Board Certification exams.
His passion for neurology, dedication to patient care, and enthusiasm for joining the Valdosta community make him a great addition to the SGMC Health team.”
Pulmonologist Dr. Vivek Yadav
Vivek Yadav, MD, specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Dr. Yadav will see patients in the clinic setting at SGMC Pulmonology, as well as in the hospital setting.
Dr. Yadav is board-certified in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine, board-eligible in critical care medicine, and has over 20 years of experience as a physician.
As a pulmonologist and critical care physician, Dr. Yadav treats patients who have conditions involving their lungs.
In the hospital setting, he treats patients who have severe illnesses or injuries affecting their breathing and require artificial support with breathing machines, such as a ventilator.
Dr. Yadav’s goal as a physician is to create a trusting and supportive environment where his patients and their families feel comfortable and confident that their health needs will be taken care of, the health system said.
He believes in a compassionate and tailored approach to their healthcare. “Becoming a physician was a decision rooted deeply in my desire to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives by alleviating suffering, promoting health, and contributing to the well-being of my community,” he shared.
Dr. Yadav received his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in India. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Centre in New York and his fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Centre in New York.
He said he is excited to join SGMC Health because of the organization’s strong community focus. “The institution’s patient-centered approach resonates deeply with my dedication to compassionate and personalized healthcare. I’m excited to contribute to and grow within such a supportive and impactful organization,” he shared.
Outside of work, Dr. Yadav enjoys staying active, volunteering, and spending time with his wife and two boys.
