VALDOSTA — Valdosta police are investigating two shootings that took place on Thursday.
Around 3:35 a.m., officers headed to Park Chase Apartments on Old Statenville Road after an E911 caller said someone had been shot, a Valdosta Police Department statement said.
At the scene, they found a 32-year-old man in a stairwell with a gunshot wound to the torso. Officers and EMTs tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.
Investigators have identified some people of interest known to the victim and said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident. No more information will be released at this time, police said.
That night, around 10:41 p.m., law enforcement officers responded to an E911 call about a shooting in the 1700 block of North Ashley Street, a second police statement said.
They found a 41-year-old man with several gunshot wounds to his upper leg. Police and sheriff’s deputies provided first aid until EMTs and the fire department arrived. The victim was taken to SGMC, where he is in critical but stable condition, police said.
Detectives determined that the victim and the shooter knew each other and had been in an argument.
