MACON — The Georgia Christian School Lady Generals’ flag football team kicked off their season in dominant fashion this week, securing four consecutive wins in just two days. After a winless season last year (0-6) while finding their footing, this year’s squad is proving they’ve figured things out.
In their season opener on Monday, Oct. 21, against Mt. de Sales, the Lady Generals engaged in a defensive battle. The lone score came in the third quarter when Kenna Mira pulled the Mt. de Sales quarterback’s flag in the end zone, forcing a safety. It was enough to give the Lady Generals a 2-0 victory.
The second game of the day saw Georgia Christian trailing 6-0 against Heritage School with just 1:20 remaining. A crucial turnover on downs at the 2-yard line gave GCS one final chance.
After an incomplete pass left only one second on the clock, Jaya Guilliams rushed for the game-tying touchdown. Maddie Mira then connected with Sage Grimes for the extra point conversion, sealing a thrilling 7-6 comeback win.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, the Lady Generals hosted St. Andrew’s and Baker County, adding two more victories to their record. In the first game, GCS took the win with a 6-0 score, thanks to a 10-yard touchdown run by Jovie Copeland in the second quarter. Strong defensive stops and key interceptions kept St. Andrew’s contained throughout the contest.
The offense exploded in the second game of the night against Baker County, starting with a 40-yard rushing touchdown by Guilliams, followed by a 20-yard score from Copeland. Grimes added a 35-yard passing touchdown to Mira, who capped off the scoring with a 2-yard rushing TD late in the fourth quarter, securing a commanding 26-0 victory.
Now sitting at 4-0, the Lady Generals will look to continue their impressive run as they return to Macon on Nov. 4 to face Mt. de Sales and St. Andrew’s, wrapping up their region schedule.
