VALDOSTA — SGMC Health has launched its new text messaging platform, powered by Epic’s Hello World. This communication advancement will make it easier for patients to stay engaged with their care, receive timely updates, and take necessary actions without requiring internet access, the hospital said.
Launched in late September, SGMC Health patients who have opted in for text notifications will receive messages from short code 53571. This streamlined communication method integrates directly with the SGMC Health MyChart system, ensuring better coordination and delivery of healthcare information, all through the Epic electronic health record (EHR) platform.
The new Hello World-powered two-way texting capability offers a range of interactive features, enabling patients to:
— Receive appointment reminders and confirm or reschedule directly by text.
— Manage prescriptions with refill reminders and medication updates.
— Access MyChart updates, allowing patients to view lab results and message their care team.
— Receive billing alerts with options to make payments via text.
— Stay connected to care management, with timely updates on treatment plans and ongoing care.
“Our priority is to provide accessible and convenient healthcare communication for our patients,” said Zach White, director of enterprise applications. “With this new texting feature, we are reducing barriers for patients to manage their healthcare needs, offering a solution that allows them to take immediate action quickly and easily.”
Patients who are not yet receiving text messages from SGMC Health can opt in by texting START to 53571, or by requesting this feature when checking in for their next appointment. By integrating Hello World with its EHR system, SGMC Health ensures that text messages are personalized and timely, reflecting each patient’s communication preferences. With this system, patients can take action on their healthcare needs with a simple text, whether it’s paying a bill or confirming an appointment—removing the need for an internet connection or logging into their MyChart account.
