VALDOSTA — The Loco Raiders, a youth travel football team founded by former NFL player Josh Clemons, celebrated significant wins for their 10U and 13U teams in Conference Championship games on Nov. 2nd.
The two teams have secured spots in the upcoming regional games on Nov. 15 and 17 in Augusta, Georgia. If they are successful there, they will advance to compete at the Nationals tournament in Naples, Florida, from Dec. 8 to 14.
For Clemons and his older brother, 10U Coach Darris Roberts, this journey is about more than just football; it is about creating a close-knit, family-oriented environment that fosters athletic and personal growth.
Reflecting on the factors that have propelled them to this point, Roberts attributes the team’s success to a supportive, family-like atmosphere. “Everybody comes together as a family—with even parents coaching. There is no “I” in the ‘team.’ Everyone is all in,” he shared.
For Roberts and Clemons, this family environment creates a supportive foundation where the players can thrive, knowing they have an entire community behind them.
Referencing a five-hour delay during the conference games, Roberts explained that he and the other coaches work hard to keep the players focused and prepared during stressful moments.
When asked if any specific areas have stood out this season, Roberts quickly praised his team’s defense, saying, “Our defense gets us going. That is why I like to start on defense first; they set the tone.”
As they look forward to regionals, Roberts shared that the team is “feeling confident, but there is still a job to do.” He explained that the team will stick to traditional strategies and continue to train and practice.
Roberts also extended gratitude to the community for their continued support, “The more support we have, the better it is for us. When we go down to regionals, we are playing for the entire city of Valdosta.”
For Roberts, Clemons, and the entire Loco Raiders family, the regional games are an opportunity to bring pride to their hometown and show how much can be accomplished through dedication, teamwork, and a supportive community.
