STATESBORO — After a thrilling overtime victory against Brookstone Academy in the final four on Tuesday in Dasher, where Georgia Christian clinched a 6-0 win, the Lady Generals wrapped up a remarkable season of flag football on Thursday night.

Facing the three-time defending champion St. Anne-Pacelli Vikings in the GIAA state championship at Georgia Southern’s Paulson Stadium, Georgia Christian fell short, 30-0, but fought valiantly against a dominant opponent.

The Lady Generals finished their season with an impressive 6-2 record, a significant turnaround from their inaugural season just a year ago. Pacelli, ranked No. 2 in Georgia across all classifications and No. 53 in the nation according to MaxPreps, presented a tough challenge for the GCS offense, shutting them out. Despite the loss, Georgia Christian’s defense kept the game competitive for most of the night.

GCS held Pacelli to just six points in the first half and another six in the third quarter, staying within striking distance until the final period. However, a series of turnovers and big plays allowed the Vikings to pull away late in the game.

Sage Grimes and Maddie Mira were defensive standouts for the Lady Generals, each recording a first-half interception to halt Pacelli drives. Kenna Mira and Joy Frazier also made critical contributions, with sacks and key flag pulls in the backfield.

“Our game plan was to keep it close and limit the big plays,” said GCS head coach Drew Copeland. “We knew the uphill challenge we faced, but our girls hung in there and played an outstanding defensive game for as long as they could. I couldn’t be more proud of what we accomplished this year.”

This season marked a dramatic transformation for Georgia Christian’s flag football program, which went winless in its inaugural campaign last year. The Lady Generals’ success has sparked new energy around the team and highlighted the growing popularity of flag football in high schools nationwide.

“Last year was fun, but we exceeded our expectations this year,” Coach Copeland added. “Next year, we plan to make another run and be right back here again!”

With a solid foundation and a state runner-up finish, the Lady Generals have set the stage for even greater achievements in the seasons to come.
