VALDOSTA — Today is going to be a very busy day for a local Pop Warner football group. The TitleTown Titans are playing three Southeast Region championship games in Orlando, Florida, today.
There are five championship games, and TitleTown has a team in three of them.
At 9 a.m., the 8U group takes on the West Boynton Wolfpack. At 1 p.m., the 9U squad faces off with the Palm Beach garden Gators. Finally, at 5 p.m., the 10U Titans play the Coconut Grove Cowboys.
TitleTown’s cheerleaders are also in Orlando to support them.
It’s been a full few days for the Titans. The Pop Warner organization has kept the teams entertained in Orlando.
The Southeast Region is composed of teams from several states.
To get to today’s games, the 8U and 9U teams each had a shutout in the previous round. The 8U team defeated the Ocean Wave, based out of Jacksonville, 27-0. The 9U team also defeated an Ocean Wave team, their game ending 33-0. TitleTown 10U had a tougher path, winning 31-30 over Fleming Island.
From here, should the 9U and 10U TitleTown Titans win, they would advance to the Pop Warner Super Bowl, which is set to take place Dec. 7-14, also in Orlando.
Pop Warner’s history stretches back nearly 100 years. The league’s name comes from Warner, a legendary football coach, who, as a college coach, was one of football’s greatest innovators. He was also the first University of Georgia coach to have an undefeated season, doing so in 1896.
