Brooks man charged with murdering wife, daughter

QUITMAN — A Brooks County man faces murder charges in the shooting deaths of his wife and daughter Friday, authorities said Monday.

Wilbert Mobley Jr., 44, of Quitman was charged with two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, three counts of aggravated assault and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation statement said.

The GBI was called in Friday morning by the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office to help with the investigation. Deputies had found two women who had been shot inside a Shiver Lane home in Quitman. They were identified as Tamiko Mobley, 48, and Tiaja Mobley, 45, the statement said.

Tamiko did not normally live with her daughter but was staying with her after an argument with her husband the previous night. Another victim, a male, was found who had been shot at but not killed; he was hit by debris from objects a bullet hit.

Both the mother’s and the daughter’s remains will be sent to the GBI crime lab for autopsies.

The suspect, Wilber Mobley Jr., was taken into custody outside the home by Quitman police. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the GBI Thomasville Office at 229-225-4090.
