VALDOSTA — On Saturday evening, Downtown Valdosta was full of festive lights and holiday spirit as the community gathered for the annual Greater Valdosta Christmas Parade.
This year’s theme, “Christmas in Georgia,” sparked creative entries that captured the charm and spirit of the community during the holidays.
A distinguished panel of judges evaluated the creative entries, including Dr. Tret Witherspoon, assistant superintendent of Valdosta City Schools; Susan Mullis, owner of The Flower Gallery in Downtown Valdosta; and Naiz McNeill, a realtor at The Herndon Company. The event was emceed by Big L from Hot 102.7 FM, whose engaging commentary added to the evening’s excitement.
The parade featured a dazzling array of floats, marching bands, and festive performances, each interpreting what “Christmas in Georgia” means to them. Participants displayed remarkable creativity and state pride, from monster trucks to dance crews. The parade ended on a high note as Santa Claus waved to the cheering crowd from the final float, bringing a magical close to a festive evening.
As the parade concluded, attendees were encouraged to explore downtown’s local businesses for festive shopping. The results of the judges’ evaluations will be announced at the first city council meeting in January.
