VALDOSTA — South Georgia’s brief cold snap early this week should give way to warmer temperatures by the weekend, a regional meteorologist said Wednesday.
A cold front moving through the area Tuesday night and Wednesday brought overnight rains and colder air in its wake, said Cameron Young, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Tallahassee, Fla., office.
High temperatures Wednesday across South Georgia ran from the mid-60s to around 70, while overnight lows were expected to be near freezing in the lower 30s.
As the cold front moved out, temperatures were expected to climb, reaching a daytime high of 71 in Valdosta Saturday with lows climbing into the mid-50s.
“It was a very quick cold shot,” Young said.
A couple of very weak cold fronts were expected to arrive in South Georgia Sunday and Tuesday, but with little to no effect on temperatures or rainfall. The skies over the region are expected to be clear most of the time through Tuesday, weather service forecasts show.
Young did not expect any severe weather in the region during this time.
