VALDOSTA — South Georgia can look forward to cooler temperatures as Christmas nears, forecasters say.
Valdosta’s daytime highs, projected to be in the mid-70s Wednesday and Thursday, should ease off in the wake of a cold front passing through Wednesday, said Felecia Bower, meteorologist-in-charge at the National Weather Service’s Tallahassee, Fla., office.
Highs in the Azalea City should drop off into the mid-50s over the weekend, with lows falling from around 60 Wednesday to the mid-30s Saturday and Sunday, the weather service forecast shows.
The usual high for Valdosta around this time of year is in the mid-60s with lows around 40, said Tom Kines, senior meteorologist for the private forecasting firm AccuWeather.
The cold front raises rain chances in South Georgia to 40% Wednesday, but Bower said if there was any rain, it wouldn’t amount to much.
“I’d be surprised if you got even a tenth of an inch” of rain, she said.
Kines said Wednesday might be the only day with a solid chance of precipitation until next week rolls around.
Both forecasters said there was little chance of any severe weather in the region.
