VALDOSTA — Police arrested a suspect Sunday after he reportedly broke into a car with a rock.
Around 8 a.m., callers to E911 reported someone was hitting a car window with a rock in a store parking lot on Gornto Road, a Valdosta Police Department statement said.
Officers found a 30-year-old Valdosta man sitting in a car with a shattered front driver’s side window. He was detained without incident, the statement said.
While searching the suspect, police found a small amount of marijuana on the suspect; he also had an active arrest warrant for an unrelated case, police said.
He was charged with felony criminal attempt to commit a felony, felony theft by entering auto, felony possession of tools for the commission of a crime, misdemeanor criminal trespass damage to property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, the police report said.
“I am proud of the quick response by our officers, who arrived on the scene and caught the offender still sitting in the vehicle. The witnesses did a great job by providing information to the E911 dispatcher and the officers when they arrived on the scene,” said Police Chief Leslie Manahan.
