VALDOSTA — At its monthly Board of Directors meeting, SGMC Health recognized a group of healthcare professionals who work on the 4 West Medical Surgical Unit as Health System Heroes.
The team members recognized include Elijah Jones, Anna Leigh Sutton, Katelyn Gutierrez, Amanda Edmondson, Leah Spivey, Makayla Cross, Kristi Andros and Samantha Sanchez. Medical Surgical Services Nursing Director Stacy Branch shared a story regarding a patient who was admitted with a life-altering and terminal illness that resulted in an extended hospital stay. “When the 4 West team realized the patient had no local relatives to provide support, they welcomed him in as their family. They quickly learned what small treats he enjoyed and purchased blankets and other personal care items for him,” she said.
After his passing, the team wanted to do something special to honor his memory, so they collected funds and donated to the SGMC Health Foundation’s annual Lights of Love campaign.
“This holiday campaign is about celebrating the spirit of love and connection within our health system and the community,” said Hilary Gibbs, Vice President and Chief Development Officer at SGMC Health. “These healthcare professionals represent the best of SGMC Health, and their empathy and commitment to delivering remarkable care will have a lasting impact on all they serve.”
