Local players featured in Georgia All-Star games

VALDOSTA — The 2024 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-Star football games featured a few local connections.

Some area coaches and a handful of area players participated at the event, which took place Dec. 29 in Macon.

Valdosta’s Jay Rome and Dontavis Sapp were listed as position coaches for the Team Hudl sophomore group. The blue jersey-ed Team CoachComm featured Valdosta’s Austin Spray and Brooks County’s Caden Cobb.

In the junior portion, Byron Slack of Cook helped out with Team Booster. Team Danley, on the opposite sideline, had Tres Ellison of Valdosta and a pair of Valwood players in Jack Melendez and Ian Giddens.

Two more VHS Wildcats found their way on the roster of the Minority Coaches Association of Georgia 2024 Rising Senior Bowl: Jalen Copeland and Cameron Brown.

That game was Dec. 30 at Atlanta’s Lakewood Stadium.
