VALDOSTA — South Georgia’s gas prices started to climb last week, in line with state and national trends.
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Valdosta Friday was $2.90, up two cents in seven days, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
The lowest price reported for gas in the Azalea City Friday was $2.72 per gallon at multiple locations, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.
— The lowest price reported for gas Friday in Tifton was $2.73 per gallon at a store on Tift Avenue North.
— The lowest price reported for gas Friday in Thomasville was $2.79 per gallon at a store on US-19 North.
— The lowest price reported for gasoline Friday in Moultrie was $2.70 per gallon at a retailer on East Broad Avenue.
Valdosta was tied with Hinesville Friday for the fifth-most expensive gasoline average price among the 15 Georgia markets monitored by the auto club: below Savannah, Macon, Atlanta and Athens but above Warner Robins, Rome, Gainesville, Dalton, Columbus, Catoosa, Brunswick, Augusta and Albany.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline Friday was $3.07 per gallon, up four cents in a week, while Georgia’s average of $2.91 per gallon was up a penny in the same period, AAA said.
“We could be heading into a period of relative stability when it comes to pump prices,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “Despite some reports to the contrary, the national average never fell below $3 this year, and it might not as a record 119 million people are forecast to travel this holiday season. And 107 million will go by car, which is a lot of fueling up.”
