VALDOSTA — Police took a Clinch County man into custody Tuesday on a vehicular homicide charge stemming from a November traffic accident.
Jonathan Bernard Marshall, 23, of Homerville faces charges of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, failure to obey a traffic signal, driving under the influence and failure to wear a seatbelt in the death of Samantha Lynn Clark, 24, of Lowndes County, a Valdosta Police Department statement said.
Around 1:15 a.m. Nov. 3, police, firefighters and EMTs headed to the intersection of Barack Obama Boulevard and Eastwind Road on a report of a traffic accident, an earlier police statement said.
They found several people with injuries along with a pickup truck and a passenger vehicle with severe damage.
Marshall, the driver of the pickup truck, had failed to stop at a traffic light, striking the passenger vehicle, police said. Clark, a passenger in the car Marshall struck, died at the hospital, Tuesday’s police statement said.
Marshall was charged with DUI the day of the accident; officers later obtained arrest warrants for the additional charges and picked him up Tuesday, police said.
“We continue to keep Ms. Clark’s family and friends in our prayers as they continue to grieve her loss. This is a tragic event that should have never happened,” said Police Chief Leslie Manahan.
