VALDOSTA — A teen-ager will be tried as an adult after his arrest Thursday in the death of his father, police said.
JaMaury Williams, 14, of Valdosta faces charges of malice murder and felony murder in the death of his father, Farmer Williams, 61, also of Valdosta, a Valdosta Police Department statement said.
Around 1:40 a.m., officers headed to a home in the 1200 block of Leone Avenue after an E911 caller said someone had been cut. They found the elder Williams with stab wounds to his body; police provided first aid until EMTs arrived, the statement said.
Farmer Williams died at South Georgia Medical Center.
JaMaury Williams was still in the residence when police arrived and was taken into custody without incident. He is being held at a youth detention center and also faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony in addition to the murder charges, the police statement said.
Detectives confirmed with the prosecutor’s office that JaMaury Williams will be tried as an adult.
“Our condolences and prayers go out to this family. In just a short moment their lives changed forever. Our staff did a great job collecting evidence to ensure a thorough investigation was completed,” said Police Chief Leslie Manahan.
