VALDOSTA — Federal Emergency Management Agency officials warn South Georgia residents that Feb. 7 is the last day to apply for disaster assistance related to Hurricane Helene.

“If a survivor misses the deadline they could potentially be missing out on assistance ranging from home repairs due to damages from the storms, things that insurance may not have covered, rental assistance and or other essential FEMA assistance that can help towards a survivor’s recovery,” James Wood, FEMA media relations specialist, said. “FEMA is here to help, and we will continue to support for as long as it takes. We continue to thank the state of Georgia, state and local officials and Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) in assisting with the mission of helping survivors each and every day.

“If you are a survivor within the 63 presidentially declared counties for individual assistance and you are still in need of applying and have not applied yet or just have questions in general, you can apply online at: disasterassistance.gov, by calling the toll-free number at: 1-800-621-3362 or by downloading the FEMA app on android and or apple.  All survivors within the eligible counties  are encouraged to get the help you need, so you can begin your path towards recovery,” Wood said.
