BAXLEY — Valdosta High’s swim teams each placed fourth Monday at the Region 1-6A meet at the Appling County Recreation Center at Baxley.

Tift County edged Richmond Hill for the girls title, 218-204. Richmond Hill’s win in the boys division was similarly close, 181-165.

A trio of fourth places were the best for Valdosta on the day.

Amelia Blevins was fourth in the 200 individual medley in 2:24 and William Moseley was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.39 seconds. Moseley combined with Carer McGhin, Lex Kennedy and Marcus Boyd for fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:08.

Lowndes’ top swimming finishes belonged to Edward Bravo.

He was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08, missing first place by less than 1.5 seconds. Earlier Bravo swam the 100 freestyle in 52.34 seconds, good for fifth place.

The meet had been postponed from last Thursday because of Winter Storm Enzo and snowfall. Tift’s Lady Devils reported this being their 12th consecutive region championship. The last two were in a smaller classification.

For those who made cuts, the state swim meet will be Feb. 5-8 at Georgia Tech.

Also finishing in the top 16 for both schools were:

— Girls 200 medley relay: Stella Blevins, Ann Blevins, Amelia Blevins and Eider Arrizabalaga (Valdosta, 6th); and Megan Moura, Valerie Roberts, Ava Thomas and Racheal Adair (Lowndes, 8th).

— Girls 200 freestyle: Arrizabalaga (VHS, 6th).

— Girls 200 freestyle: Kelly McCall (VHS, 16th).

— Boys 50 freestyle: Boyd (VHS, 10th), Kennedy (VHS, 11th) and McGhin (VHS, 15th).

— Girls 50 freestyle: Belle Stidham (LHS, 14th).

— Girls 100 butterfly: Ava Thomas (LHS, 6th) and Amelia Blevins (VHS, 7th).

— Boys 100 butterfly: Gabrial Dodard (LHS, 14th).

— Girls 100 freestyle: Thomas (LHS, 6th).

— Girls 500 freestyle: Nevaeh Wallstrom (VHS, 10th).

— Girls 200 freestyle relay: Arrizabalaga, Stella Blevins, Ann Blevins and Amelia Blevins (VHS, 6th); and Wallstrom, Mia Schuckmann, Olivia Shen and Hayden Peterson (VHS 8th).

— Boys 100 backstroke: Juan Missick (VHS, 14th) and Michael Dwyer (VHS, 15th).

— Girls 100 backstroke: Stidham (LHS, 6th), Stella Blevins (VHS, 7th) and Moura (LHS, 13th).

— Boys 100 breaststroke: Christopher Wallace (VHS, 15th).
