Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. honors Valdosta chapter

VALDOSTA — Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Georgia District presented the District Director Service Award to Kappa Tau Lambda Chapter of Valdosta for transparent and responsible implementation of the M.E.A.N. Strategy. M.E.A.N. stands for Mobilization, Education Advocacy, and Navigation. 

Kappa Tau Lambda has been actively involve in promoting voter engagement and education through the M.E.A.N. Strategy, the fraternity said in a press release. It has participated in barbershop talks and voter registrations at World of Fade on West Hill Avenue and Awesome Kuts on Bemiss Road; and created voting postcards with voting information. These efforts also included participating in community events like the Juneteenth Celebrations and the 100 Black Men Barbecue, as well as collaborating with local clergy to organize a Voting Town Hall at Big Nicks Juke Joint, focused on empowering black men participation in the political process. 

Kappa Tau Lambda secured funding through grants from organizations like Black Voters Matter and Alpha Micro Grant, totaling over $20,000.
