Three from Adel, Valdosta face possible life sentences

VALDOSTA — Two Adel men and a Valdosta man face possible life in prison after their conviction Jan. 29 in federal court on drug charges.
Calvin James Smith “Rollo” Sr., 56, was found guilty of 23 counts, including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of cocaine base, intent to distribute cocaine, attempt to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, according to a U.S. Department of Justice statement.
Smith faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
In addition, Bobby Leon Kaiser, 54, of Adel, was found guilty of nine of 12 counts, including conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, distribution of methamphetamine, distribution of cocaine base and distribution of cocaine. Kaiser is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison, the statement said.
Vernardo Henley, 44, of Valdosta, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances. Henley also faces a maximum term of life in prison, the justice department said.
The FBI began probing a drug gang led by Smith in December 2020. The central site for the organization was an open drug market at Kaiser’s gazebo and storage shed in Adel, the statement said.
