Valdosta firefighters battle two blazes overnight

VALDOSTA — Two houses burned in Valdosta Wednesday night.

The first took place around 10:16 p.m. when firefighters were sent to a structure fire at 305 W. Gordon St., according to a Valdosta Fire Department statement. They found smoke coming from an unoccupied single-family home.

The fire was extinguished and fire crews made sure no one was inside. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

The second fire took place around 4:43 a.m. Thursday at 629 E. Gordon St., the statement said. Firefighters found flames and smoke coming from the rear of a single-family home. Crews put out the fire and made sure the occupants made it out without injuries.

Five people were displaced as a result and received help from the American Red Cross.

No injuries were reported with either fire. The Valdosta Police Department and EMTs helped with on-scene operations.
