Sylvester and Essie May Register, pictured right with their family, hosted the Daughters of the American Revolution and Valdosta-Lowndes officials for the Franklinville marker dedication on February 26, 1938. Franklinville was the first county seat of Lowndes County, created in 1828, just two years after the county was carved out of Irwin County. The community may have been named for Franklin Rountree, whose home was used for court and other official business. Franklinville was located a few miles east of Hahira.
