VALDOSTA — The Annual Black History Program (“I Am Black History”), a collaboration with Southside  Library Boosters, Inc. and Pepsi of  Valdosta, was held Feb. 13  at McMullen Southside Library.
Entertainment and music were provided by the Valdosta Early College Academy (VECA) School Chorus, African Drum & Dance Ensemble by  Cultural Youth Empowerment Collective (Valdosta High School) and oral presentations (“Still I Rise” and “Hey Black Child”) by McKenzy, Taylor, Sydney, Kennedy and  Athaleyah Clemons.  Little Jase Clemons put his heart into singing a song.
Honorees for the evening included:  Salvation Army of Valdosta Captains Hoon and Judy Clung; MLK Commemoration Committee Ralph and Ruth Council, Southside Booster Laverne Richardson, and REMINISCENT Dr. Debra Tann.
The evening was inspirational, educational and uplifting to the crowded audience, organizers said in a press release. At the  close of the program each participant was provided a meal by Chef Ricky McKinnon with drink — to carry home.
Plans are underway for the 33rd Annual Juneteenth Celebration set to begin with  a Fashion Show on June 14.
