VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Fire Department was on the scene Friday afternoon of a residential structure fire in the 900 block of the Madison Highway, according to a fire department Facebook post. People were asked to avoid the area.

Five people were displaced and one injured resident was treated at the scene by EMTs, said Fire Chief Brian Boutwell. Unattended cooking was the cause of the fire, he said.
