VALDOSTA— Surrounded by family, teammates, coaches, and supporters, Turner Samples took a major step forward in his baseball journey on Thursday as he officially signed his college baseball scholarship to play for Roane State Community College in Tennessee.

The signing ceremony, held at Valdosta High School, celebrated Samples’ dedication to the sport and his impact on the Wildcat baseball program. Samples has made a strong name for himself at Valdosta High School. Known for his impressive hitting and exceptional skills as a catcher, he has also demonstrated his strength as a pitcher. Coach Bart Shuman joked that they need to find a way for him to play both positions at the same time.

Shuman praised Samples for his work ethic and leadership, noting that his success did not come by accident.

“He does not just work when the season starts. It is year-round, and that is why he has the success that he has,” Shuman said.

The event also gave Samples a chance to thank his family, friends, coaches, and everyone who supported him. Reginald Mitchell, athletic director for Valdosta City Schools, praised Samples’ parents for their involvement and encouragement.

Shuman highlighted the significance of Samples’ achievement, recognizing how rare it is for a high school athlete to reach the next level.

“He is the epitome of what it takes to be successful at this level because this is a very competitive level, and to play at the college level is another small percentage,” said Shuman.

As Samples prepares to take the field for Roane State, his legacy at Valdosta High remains clear: teammate, leader, hard worker, role model.
