VALDOSTA — The City of Valdosta will host the Second Annual Touch-A-Truck Event 10 a.m. to noon April 23 at Five Points Shopping Center, 3101 N. Ashley St. This interactive, family-friendly event is part of Georgia Cities Week, providing children and families a hands-on opportunity to explore a variety of service trucks, heavy equipment, and emergency vehicles used by city departments.
Attendees will have the chance to get up close with trucks from Public Works, Utilities, Stormwater, and Engineering, learning about the essential services these departments provide to the community. City staff and operators will be on-site to engage with visitors, answer questions, and offer live demonstrations of the equipment in action.
“This event is a fantastic way for families to see the incredible work our city departments do while allowing children to experience these large vehicles in a fun and educational way,” said Jason Barnes, director of utilities. “We are proud to celebrate Georgia Cities Week by showcasing the dedicated teams that help keep the City of Valdosta running smoothly every day.”
Public Works Director Larry Ogden emphasized the importance of community engagement and education through events like Touch-A-Truck.
“Public Works plays a crucial role in maintaining our city’s infrastructure, and this event allows us to connect with the public in a unique way. Kids and families can see firsthand the vehicles and equipment we use daily to keep Valdosta clean, safe, and operational,” Ogden said.
