VALDOSTA — One person suffered minor injuries in a house fire Wednesday evening.

The Valdosta Fire Department responded about 8:05 p.m. Wednesday to the fire at 2113 Caswell St.

The first unit arrived on scene within three minutes to find smoke coming from a single-story duplex apartment, according to a VFD statement Thursday afternoon. Fire crews quickly brought the fire under control and conducted a thorough search, confirming no one remained inside.

The occupant of the house was injured, the VFD said. He was displaced and will be staying with family. 

The cause of the fire was determined to be cooking-related, the fire department said. 

The Valdosta Police Department and SGMC Health EMS assisted with on-scene operations.
