VALDOSTA — McKey Park will host the Region 1-6A tennis championships Tuesday.
Matches begin at 9 a.m. with girls teams. No. 2 Lowndes takes on No. 3 Colquitt County and No. 1 Camden County will face either Tift County or Richmond Hill.
Boys will start play at about 10:30 a.m. No. 1 Tift faces No. 4 Colquitt and No. 2 Richmond Hill plays No. 3 Camden.
Camden will learn its first-round girls opponent on Monday.
With such a distance between schools, Tift and Richmond Hill decided to wait for their play-in game, which will also be at McKey Park.
Colquitt’s boys defeated Lowndes, 3-2, last week in their play-in.
Finals and consolations will be held later Tuesday. The final four boys and girls teams all advance to state. State will begin the week of April 24, according to the Georgia High School Association.
Camden’s girls and Tift’s boys were undefeated during the regular season against region opponents, both 5-0.
Lowndes’ Vikettes and Camden’s Wildcats won the Region 1-7A titles a year ago. Both of these squads advanced to the elite eight in 2024. Tift’s boys were Region 1-6A champions last year before the GHSA reorganized its classifications and dropped 7A.
